Trinamool Congress Leader Tajimul Islam Allegedly Assaults Two Young Women in Chopra, North Dinajpur, West Bengal, Sparking Statewide Outcry

Tajimul Islam, known locally as "JCB," due to his perceived power, reportedly brutally attacked two young women on allegations of adultery in Chopra, North Dinajpur. A viral video of the incident led to widespread condemnation across the state. While the ruling party criticized the incident, a party MLA defended Tajimul. He allegedly convened a public arbitration meeting where he publicly beat the youth and the girl with bamboo sticks, amidst bystanders who did not intervene.

Following public outrage and the video's circulation, Tajimul was arrested by police and remanded for five days by the court. Concurrently, in another incident, a minority woman from Cooch Behar was allegedly mistreated by local Trinamool leaders and subsequently supported by BJP members.

In response, women MLAs and leaders, led by Agnimitra Pal of the West Bengal BJP Mahila Morcha, staged a sit-in protest at the state assembly demanding justice and a CBI investigation into cases of violence against women. Agnimitra Pal highlighted concerns over the state of democracy in West Bengal, criticizing the lack of action by the woman chief minister against such incidents, which she argues perpetuate tyranny and threaten democracy.

The incidents have also drawn attention from Governor CV Anand Bose, who has sought a report from the state government and plans to visit Chopra to assess the situation firsthand.
