Upon returning to Gaza, Mohammed Abu Salmiya, the director of Al-Shifa, delivered a speech at the Nasser Hospital compound, accompanied by other recently released prisoners.

Abu Salmiya, the director of the recently released Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza, claimed that he was brutally tortured while imprisoned in Israel. On Monday, he and several others returned to Gaza after being freed from Israeli captivity. Israeli authorities said they were sent back for medical treatment.

Back in Gaza, Abu Salmiya gave a speech at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis city. He said that several prisoners died in the interrogation center. They were not given food and medicine. Abu Salmiya broke a thumb in the torture, which has not yet recovered. He said that for two months the prisoners were given only one piece of bread a day. Prisoners were physically and mentally abused.

The head of Al-Shifa said that no charges have been brought against him. Israel's intelligence agency Shin Bet said the decision to release the prisoners was made in cooperation with the army in order to free up space in the detention centers. The organization said it "opposed the release of terrorists" who attacked Israeli civilians. So it was decided to release the less dangerous among the prisoners.

Since Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel on October 7, the country has launched a massive offensive in Gaza. At this time Al-Shifa hospital was also attacked several times and almost turned into ruins. Israel captured Abu Salmiya from this hospital in November. Many top doctors from Gaza, including Abu Salmiya, have been captured by Israeli forces. According to the Gaza European Hospital in Khan Younis, the head of the orthopedic department, Bassam Mikdad, is among those who were released today. Israel accuses Hamas of using Gaza's hospitals and infrastructure as shields in the face of military operations.Last May, Palestinian rights groups said a senior surgeon at Al-Shifa Hospital was killed in detention.

However, Israel claims that they do not know anything about this. The war began on October 7 when Hamas fighters entered Israeli territory. According to AFP, based on the information received from Israel, about 1,200 people were killed in this attack. On the other hand, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, at least 37 thousand 877 people were killed in the Israeli attack, most of whom were civilians.
