MP Anna's murder case was extended by another 14 days in custody for Jihad

Jihad Howladar, implicated in the murder case of Jhenaidah-4 Constituency MP Anwarul Azim Anna, was remanded in 14-day judicial custody by the Barasat District and Sessions Court of North 24 Parganas district. The verdict was delivered by Justice Shubhankar Biswas on Friday (June 21).

Originally scheduled to appear in person before the court, Jihad was instead presented via video conference due to insufficient vehicles available from the jail authorities.

Justice Shubhankar Biswas listened to Jihad's statements via video conference. Following the proceedings, the bail plea from Jihad was denied, and the court ordered another 14 days of incarceration. The next hearing is scheduled for July 5th.

According to Barasat district court lawyer A Jamal, Jihad Howladar was scheduled to appear in person today, but due to insufficient vehicles, he couldn't be brought to court. As an alternative, the judge conducted the proceedings via video conference with the accused.

Jihad Howladar has been charged under four non-bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code: 364 (kidnapping with intent to murder), 302 (culpable homicide), 201 (falsification of evidence), and 120B (criminal conspiracy).

On May 13 this year, Anwarul Azim Anwar, the MP of Jhenaidah-4 Constituency in Bangladesh, was murdered in a flat located in Sanjiba Gardens housing in Kolkata's Newtown area. Parts of Anwar's body were found in the residence's septic tank 15 days after the murder. However, confirmation is still pending on whether these parts belong to MP Anwar.

The recovered remains have been sent to India's Central Forensic Science Laboratory for testing, including the possibility of conducting DNA analysis if required. Investigating officers anticipate that finding any bones or the skull during this period will accelerate progress in the murder investigation.
