**New Delhi:** After a marathon six-week, seven-phase voting, results for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were declared yesterday. The BJP-led NDA secured 292 seats, defeating the Opposition alliance - INDIA, which won 232 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take the oath of office on Saturday evening, June 8.

Both the NDA and the INDIA bloc will hold key meetings today to discuss their respective paths forward. The contest between the BJP and the INDIA alliance reflects a broader ideological battle.

PM Modi has hailed the poll results as a "victory of the world's largest democracy."

The BJP had set an ambitious target of 370 seats (400+ including NDA partners), but the opposition alliance, led by Congress and known as the INDIA bloc, thwarted their efforts. The opposition's strong performance, securing 232 seats, defied exit polls and significantly reduced the BJP's lead in crucial states.
