ChatGPT Restored Online Following Service Interruption

Following an initial outage that disrupted OpenAI's ChatGPT service for several hours during the early hours of Tuesday, another significant disruption occurred during US daytime hours. OpenAI acknowledged the issue, stating, "ChatGPT is unavailable for some users," as investigations into the problem commenced. The second wave of issues emerged around 10:30 AM ET, with numerous reports flooding Downdetector.

During this time, many users of ChatGPT's mobile apps and web service encountered difficulties receiving replies. However, by approximately 1:17 PM ET, OpenAI confirmed resolution of the issue.

Coinciding with ChatGPT's downtime, some users reported issues with Google Gemini, Anthropic's Claude AI, and Perplexity AI web search. While Google Gemini eventually became widely accessible again, Claude AI experienced a swift recovery. By 1:30 PM ET, Perplexity announced the restoration of its AI search tool.

The previous major outage affecting ChatGPT occurred in November, lasting approximately 90 minutes and also impacting OpenAI's API services. However, it appears that the API remained unaffected during this recent outage. OpenAI later disclosed that the November incident was attributed to a DDoS attack.

Last month, a Microsoft outage disrupted ChatGPT search functionalities, as well as the tech company's own Copilot service.

Update, June 4th: ChatGPT access has been restored, as reported. Additionally, there have been noted issues with other AI tools.
