Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has emphasized the importance of dialogue to overcome the economic and developmental challenges faced by Bangladesh and India. She expressed this during a courtesy meeting with India's Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on the evening of Friday, June 21, at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi.


Later, the Prime Minister's Chief Secretary, Tofazzal Hossain Mia, briefed journalists. The Prime Minister stated that by exchanging experiences and engaging in dialogue, we can address and overcome the challenges we face in economic development.


Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Tofazzal Hossain Mia, provided details about the courtesy call discussion. He mentioned that the meeting focused on enhancing the partnership between the two neighboring countries.

The Chief Secretary noted that both new governments have assumed power with the mandate of the people, bringing fresh visions to both countries.


India's Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar, highlighted that over the past 10 years, the relationship between Bangladesh and India has reached significant heights, paving the way for a new chapter in their relationship.

According to India's Foreign Minister, Tofazzal Hossain Mia indicated that the new chapter will focus on trade.


The Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister expressed India's intention to collaborate extensively with Bangladesh in logistics, energy, and connectivity sectors.

India's Foreign Minister also extended congratulations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of Awami League's Diamond Jubilee celebration on June 23.

Dr. S. Jaishankar, India's foreign minister, encouraged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to assume a new role in BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation).


He expressed optimism that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would attend the upcoming BIMSTEC meeting scheduled for September in Thailand.

Both Sheikh Hasina and the Indian foreign minister concurred that a robust BIMSTEC would yield economic, trade, connectivity, and digitalization benefits for Bangladesh.


During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed her keenness to collaborate closely on digital initiatives, including enhancing tax and revenue collection and delivering services to the people through digital channels.

Tofazzal Hossain Miah stated that during the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of expeditiously and efficiently completing projects between the two neighboring countries. The Foreign Minister of India also expressed agreement on this matter.


Regarding the Rohingya issue, the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister noted that the border areas of Bangladesh and India are facing challenges due to the ongoing conflict involving the Myanmar government and various groups.

Prime Minister's press secretary Naemul Islam Khan stated during the briefing that India's Foreign Minister Jaishankar remarked on the advancement of other BIMSTEC member countries through mutual cooperation, with the exception of Myanmar. He emphasized that India, too, faces challenges stemming from its relationship with Myanmar.
