How Biden-Trump will attack each other in the first debate

Joe Biden and Donald Trump

After trading barbs from a distance for so long, the face-to-face showdown is about to begin. Ahead of the US presidential election, current President Joe Biden and his Republican challenger Donald Trump will participate in their first debate in Atlanta on June 27. With the November election approaching, campaigning in the United States is in full swing.

Opinion polls indicate a close race between Biden and Trump, who have been attacking each other personally at various rallies, particularly focusing on age.Donald Nieman, a professor of history and political analyst at New York's Binghamton University, told AFP, "This debate is very important because it offers both candidates a chance to reintroduce themselves to the public. While people are familiar with them, they often don't pay close attention." However, Nieman raised the question of how much this debate will engage ordinary people who aren't typically interested in politics.

During the 90-minute debate, Trump is expected to seize the opportunity to question the mental capacity of his 81-year-old rival. At 78 years old himself, Trump is also not immune to age-related jabs from Biden. Biden, on the other hand, is anticipated to target Trump over the criminal case against him, reiterating his stance that Trump is unfit for the presidency.

Late last month, a New York court found Trump guilty of bribing porn star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about their alleged sexual relationship ahead of the 2016 presidential election and concealing this information in business documents. The judgment in the case will be announced on July 11.

The CPD, a nonpartisan United States Commission on Debates, has been organizing election debates since 1988, and this year is no different. CNN will host the first debate next Thursday, with the second debate scheduled for September 10 and hosted by ABC. Topics expected to come up include women's abortion rights, inflation, border security, and immigration.

The last Trump-Biden debate in 2020 turned into a brawl, with Trump repeatedly interrupting Biden until Biden exclaimed, "Can you shut up?" This time, the organizers will implement measures to prevent chaos, such as having the ability to turn off the microphone of anyone who is not the designated speaker.
