Cyndi Lauper to Make Dallas Stop on Farewell Tour This Fall

The pop music icon will perform at the American Airlines Center on November 12.

Girls Just Wanna Tour: Cyndi Lauper is embarking on a three-month farewell tour this fall, as the pop music legend announced Monday.

The “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Time After Time” hitmaker, who is the subject of a new Paramount+ documentary, will kick off her final tour at the Bell Centre in Montreal on October 18. According to Monday’s announcement, the 23-date tour will visit major cities across the U.S., including a stop at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on November 12. The tour will conclude on December 5 with a final show in Chicago.

Lauper is well-acquainted with the D-FW area. Her most recent Dallas concert was on June 1, headlining the Turtle Creek Chorale’s annual gala. She also performed with Rod Stewart in Grand Prairie in 2017 and at Dallas’ House of Blues in 2013.

Tickets for the tour will be available this week, starting with an artist presale on Tuesday.

General ticket sales begin on Friday, according to concert giant and tour promoter Live Nation. Special guests joining Lauper on tour will be announced later. This summer, she will also hit the festival circuit with appearances at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Glastonbury Festival in the U.K., and Rock in Rio in Brazil before embarking on her tour.

The Brooklyn-born pop icon, the first woman in history to have four top-five singles from a debut album, reached the pinnacle of pop music in the 1980s with her spirited anthem “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” from her debut album, “She’s So Unusual,” which earned her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

The announcement of the tour by the "True Colors" singer came just a day before her documentary, "Let the Canary Sing," starts streaming on Paramount+. Directed by Emmy Award winner Alison Ellwood, the feature-length film premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival and delves into the singer's life and career.

“Over the years I’ve been asked to do a documentary about my life and work, but it never felt like the right time,” Lauper remarked last month. “Until now. When I first met Alison Ellwood, I knew right away I could trust her to tell my story honestly, which was incredibly important to me, and she succeeded in that.”

In celebration of both the tour and the film, Lauper will be honored on Tuesday with an imprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. This will be followed by a private screening of the film and a Q&A session later that evening.

During the weekend, the Emmy and Tony Award-winning artist participated in West Hollywood’s annual Pride Parade as the event’s Lifetime Ally Icon honoree. This recognition acknowledged Lauper's longstanding advocacy efforts for LGBTQ+ rights, social justice, and women’s issues.
