Chiefs' BJ Thompson Awake and Responsive One Day After Cardiac Arrest at Team Facility, Says Agent

The Chiefs' defensive lineman is in stable condition.

The Kansas City Chiefs received fantastic news on Friday regarding BJ Thompson. Thompson's agent, Chris Turnage, informed NFL Media that the defensive lineman is awake and responsive.

This positive update comes just one day after Thompson was rushed to the hospital following a medical emergency at the team facility. The 27-year-old suffered a seizure that led to cardiac arrest during a special teams meeting on Thursday morning, according to NFL Media. Multiple reports indicate that the Chiefs' trainers and medical staff responded immediately, enabling Thompson to receive the necessary treatment quickly.

As recently as Thursday night, Turnage had reported that Thompson was still unconscious, making this latest development especially significant.

Thompson is in his second year with the Chiefs, having been selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He played in one game during his rookie season.

The Chiefs were scheduled to hold their final offseason training activity (OTA) of the week on Thursday, following practices on both Tuesday and Wednesday. However, due to the situation, all Thursday activities were postponed until Friday.

The Chiefs also have a mandatory minicamp coming up, which will run from June 11-13. Following the minicamp, the team will have a break until training camp begins in late July.
