Blinken called on Israeli leaders to prevent escalating tensions with Hezbollah.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Israeli leaders, urging them to avoid escalating tensions with the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah. Blinken made these remarks during a meeting with Israel's National Security Adviser Zachi Hanegbi and Israel's Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, according to the State Department.

The meeting between U.S. and Israeli officials followed a stern warning from Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, who stated that Hezbollah would initiate an all-out war if Lebanon were attacked, disregarding all rules. Earlier on Wednesday (June 19), Tel Aviv had authorized attacks on targets of the Iran-backed organization Hezbollah. In response, Nasrallah threatened both Israel and their "ally" Cyprus.

On Tuesday (June 18), Hezbollah threatened to attack Haifa, Israel's third largest city, and even flew a surveillance drone over it. In response, Tel Aviv promptly declared an all-out war in Lebanon with the objective of "destroying" Hezbollah.
