1,081 individuals from various countries have passed away during this year's Hajj pilgrimage up to Thursday (June 20). Specifically, 31 fatalities have been reported in Bangladesh during this period.

The National Meteorological Center of Saudi Arabia reported that the temperature at Mecca's Grand Mosque soared to 51.8 degrees Celsius this week. Concerns are being raised that the high heat may have contributed to the high number of deaths.

Arab diplomats informed the French news agency AFP that 658 fatalities in Egypt have been attributed to severe heat thus far. Among them, 630 were unregistered individuals. This year, 50,752 people from Egypt registered and completed the Hajj pilgrimage.

Annually, thousands of people pursue Hajj through informal means due to the high costs associated with official registration. These unregistered pilgrims often lack access to air-conditioned facilities.

Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has established a 'crisis cell' led by the prime minister in response to the significant number of fatalities during the Hajj pilgrimage.

In Bangladesh, the Ministry of Religion confirmed the deaths of 31 individuals on Thursday night, including 25 men and six women.

According to a diplomat from Pakistan, 58 deaths have been reported among approximately 150,000 pilgrims participating in the Hajj so far.

Meanwhile, approximately 240,000 individuals from Indonesia participated in this year's Hajj pilgrimage. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has confirmed the deaths of 183 people among them.

Authorities from Malaysia, India, Jordan, Iran, Senegal, Tunisia, Sudan, and Iraq's Kurdistan Region have also reported deaths among their respective pilgrims. The exact cause of their deaths remains unspecified, though it is suspected to be related to the intense heat.

In 2015, up to 2,300 people lost their lives due to a stampede during the Hajj pilgrimage.
