Two climate activists were arrested at Stonehenge in England for spraying orange paint on the famous historic landmark.

The group Just Stop Oil claimed responsibility for the Wednesday incident, stating it was a plea to the United Kingdom to end fossil fuel use by 2030.

"Just Stop Oil," in a press release, emphasized the dangers of continuing to burn coal, oil, and gas, warning of severe consequences for humanity.

The group assured that the orange cornflour used on the monument would wash away in rain.

Identified as University of Oxford student Niamh Lynch, 21, and Birmingham resident Rajan Naidu, 73, the activists were apprehended by Wiltshire Police on suspicion of damaging Stonehenge.

The act occurred a day before the summer solstice, when thousands were expected to visit the site.

English Heritage, which manages Stonehenge, described the incident as "extremely upsetting" and is assessing any damage caused.

Just Stop Oil reiterated in their statement that halting future oil and gas licenses would not suffice; they demanded a binding treaty banning extraction and burning of these fuels by 2030.

UK political leaders, including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Keir Starmer, condemned the action, calling it disgraceful and outrageous respectively.

This protest is the latest in a series by Just Stop Oil, known for disrupting events like Wimbledon matches, the London pride parade, and defacing classic artworks.
